3 months prior to Meta’s public rebranding announcement, their internal XR team collaborated with Nexus Studios to create a speculative augmented reality product that integrated both AI and a future-facing (yet still familiar) design language into everyday life.

Lead UI/UX Designer - Immersive Interfaces | Designing for AI | User Persona Development | 2D + 3D UI Components | Design Systems

Even by 2021, most standards for real-time immersive UI design were hyper specific to the gaming industry and didn’t accommodate for traditional interface design practices. In the initial phase of this project, the design team’s primary goal was to create a scalable design system and handoff protocol that was functional from both a UX and a technical perspective.

In practice, this took the form of rigorous documentation in the form of isometric views, dimensioning subcomponents in XYZ space, and alternating daily implementation check ins with engineers.

Low-fidelity components were an ideal area to prove out the unique UX and ergonomic needs of AR while also providing the engineering team with a sandbox set of properties for testing.
